TBM on BBC Midlands Today

Mon, Jan 19th 2009, 22:44

The Brothers McLeod feature on BBC Midlands Today. We were interviewed today by Giles Latcham for our local BBC news bulletin. Cool! Rather strangely Gary the camera man was the same guy that filmed us last year for BBC's Inside Out.

Writers' Guild Feature

Tue, Jun 2nd 2009, 09:51

This quarter's Writers' Guild of Great Britain magazine features an article about our BAFTA experience with Codswallop.

The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain is the trade union representing writers in TV, radio, theatre, books, poetry, film, online and video games.

In TV, film, radio and theatre, the Guild is the recognised body for negotiating minimum terms and practice agreements for writers.

We campaign and lobby on behalf of all writers – by joining the Guild you can help make our voice even stronger.

I've found the Guild's publications very useful when negogiating fees for TV and games. They also have a good blog which you can follow here.

It's time to rush out and buy the last two editions of Aesthetica Magazine for whom I've written two articles 'How To Animate: Parts 1 and 2'.

Each article is a ten part guide to coming up with ideas for animation and turning those ideas into reality.

You can keep up to date with Aesthetica Magazine on Twitter, Facebook or on their blog.

CITV to split target audiences with preschool strand launch

citv minis

1 October, 2009 | By Katherine Rushton

ITV is to launch a dedicated preschool strand hosted by animated ‘acorn-like’ creatures to differentiate it from the main CITV brand, which will now target older kids.

Mini CITV will target under fives from 9.25am to 3pm on term-time weekdays, while CITV shows aimed at five-to 10-year-olds will run at weekends or during school holidays.

ITV will introduce new logos for both strands plus interstitials for Mini CITV featuring the Minis characters, which live alongside live-action children playing and solving problems.

They were designed in-house and animated by The Brothers McLeod.

The move to separate the age groups follows research which suggested viewers found the CITV brand confusing.

ITV controller of digital channels Emma Tennant said: “Parents tended to think of it as an afterschool brand because that’s what it was when they were younger.”

The Skinny watches The Moon Bird

Mon, Jun 21st 2010, 10:44

window and witchThe Moon Bird was seen by reviewer James Campbell from Scotland's The Skinny. He wrote "The first collection was really very impressive... McLaren Animation 1 features a surprising abundance of snow, whales, foxes and magicians. Tone ranges from the sublime... to the down-right distressing ('The Moon Bird', while beautiful to pore over, is perhaps the scariest animation I've seen...)."

Moon Bird reviewed

Mon, Jul 12th 2010, 10:05

Andrew Robertson at Eye for Film has reviewed our short film The Moon Bird very positively... Four Stars. Blush!

"Starkly monochrome, like chalk on a blackboard, sometimes appearing a negative, it is not only the animation that is dark; this fairy tale from the Brothers McLeod might be from the pages of the Brothers Grimm. Beyond its striking visuals, it has a soundtrack with piercing choral tones, a discordant but lovely score, and a story that is frightening and magical."
